May the Force Be With You
May 4th is Star Wars Day designated as such due to how closely ‘May the 4th’ is to the classic Star Wars tagline, “May the force be with you.” The day will no doubt be filled with countless celebrations and costume parties.
As powerful as The Force was in the Star Wars sagas, there is an even greater power available to us. And unlike the Star Wars characters who received the force from midi-chlorians (fictitious microscopic, intelligent lifeforms), we receive our power, a real force, from Christ Jesus through the Holy Spirit…
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you - Act 1:8
And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. - Acts 4:33
And Stephen, full of grace and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people. - Acts 6
Through the Holy Spirit we have the power to boldly stand up for our faith, to boldly proclaim salvation through Jesus, to call upon the name of the Lord for peace, strength, hope, and so much more.
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. - 2 Timothy 1:6,7
We have access to the same power that created the world, rose Christ from the dead, and wiped away our sins when we confessed with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believed in our heart that God raised him from the dead, and we were saved. Romans 10:8-10. That same power gives us the ability to love others, to help others, and forgive others the same way God forgives us.
The same power transformed Peter from his fear causing him to deny Christ to a young girl to boldly defending his faith to |the High Priest and the Council who strictly forbid him from talking about Christ. Peter replied to the demand by stating, “We must obey God rather than men” Acts 5:29
You and I have the same power Peter had, Paul had, James had, and all the saints before us had. So then, we should be as bold as they were to proclaim salvation through Jesus. Not use the force for our own benefit, but to make known to all the grace, mercy, peace, and hope found in a relationship with the one who has the power to forgive all, and to love all…Christ Jesus.
May the Force (Power) of Jesus Christ be with you all.
